Next spring, Illinois State University will begin implementing its new Learning Management System (LMS), a replacement of the current Blackboard system. The new LMS is built on the open-source Sakai platform and will be supported by rSmart, an experienced vendor in the LMS field. As a part of the transition process, the transition team sponsored a naming contest, asking for name ideas for the new LMS.
The first part of the naming contest has just concluded, with close to 2,700 entries from across campus with thousands of ideas for names received. From that list, four finalists have been chosen. Everyone on campus can vote to choose a winner for the name of the new LMS. The four entries are:
InterNest - A Redbird is the Illinois State's school mascot. The nest is representative of many characteristics of birds (i.e., their homes) and, therefore, the name is symbolic as a home place on the internet for our community to grow and learn together.
Redbird Hub
ReggieNet
Rufus - Latin for red as in our school colors.
To vote, please go to www.teachtech.ilstu.edu/contest and click “Enter Here.” Each person is allowed only one vote, so choose carefully. The contest will run through Friday, Sept. 30.
