The Center for Teaching, Learning & Technology (CTLT) is now accepting proposals for the 2012 Teaching & Learning Symposium, Creating Climates for Teaching and Learning, which will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. The online submission process will be open through Oct. 31. The Call for Proposals, the online submission form, tips for writing successful proposals and examples of successful proposals are available on the CTLT website.
New to the Symposium this year is a Classroom Technology Showcase in the afternoon. Each Classroom Technology Showcase presenter will be provided with a table to showcase his/her innovation. Presenters should be prepared to present their innovations on laptops, mobile devices, etc. They will be expected to remain at their tables for one 50-minute session to demonstrate how they are using their particular technologies in their classrooms, respond to questions and indicate their interest in mentoring others. Participants attending the session will be free to move from table to table, talking to presenters and asking questions about the various technologies on display. Proposals for the Classroom Technology Showcase should be submitted by using the online proposal submission form.
Proposals for Symposium sessions may address any aspect of teaching and learning at Illinois State University, but we are particularly interested in those that address the creation of climates (in classrooms, programs, departments, units and on campus) that support teaching and learning. Proposals can be for 20-minute individual presentations, 40-minute panel presentations, poster presentations or showcase tables.
Everyone who has teaching responsibilities at Illinois State, including tenured and tenure-track faculty, full- and part-time non-tenure track faculty, graduate teaching assistants and administrative/professional staff with teaching or teaching-related responsibilities is welcome to submit a proposal and/or attend the Symposium.
Registration for the event, which is free, will begin on Nov. 1. Lunch is included. Questions about the event should be directed to Claire Lamonica, CTLT associate director, at cclamon@ilstu.edu or 438-7695.
