Viva España will be the theme of a concert by the Illinois State University Symphony on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. in the University’s Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $7 for faculty and staff members and $6 for students and seniors.
The Spanish-influenced program will include Emmanuel Chabrier’s España: Rhapsody for Orchestra, with guest conductor Roar Schaad, retired Illinois State recording engineer; Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, with graduate student conductor Lucia Marin; Manuel De Falla’ Nights in the Gardens of Spain, with pianist Joshua Russell from Illinois State’s School of Music; and Les Préludes by Franz Liszt, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth.
The Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra is conducted by School of Music Professor Glenn Block.
