Faculty join panel for new exhibit

Photo of pamphlet for exhibitThe Illinois State University School of Art is co-sponsoring an exhibit on multiculturalism in graphic design at the McLean County Museum of History opening Saturday, Sept. 24.

According to the museum, the effort, titled Reason, Reflect, and Respect: An Exhibit on Cultural Identity in Design, will be “an exploration of ancestral culture and perceptions.” Members of the Illinois State faculty will take part in a panel discussing the role of cultural identity in graphic design at the opening reception at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, in the Gov. Fifer Courtroom on the second floor of the Museum.

Those joining the panel will be Illinois State Associate Professor of History Kyle Ciani, Illinois State Professor of Sociology and Director of the Latin America and Latino/a Studies Maura Toro-Morn, Illinois State Assistant Professor of Graphic Design Archana Shekara, University of Illinois Interim Director of The Japan House and Associate Professor and Chair of Graphic Design Jennifer Gunji-Ballsrud and Illinois Wesleyan University Director of the Action Research Center Deborah Halperin.

Included in the exhibit will be designs created for local non-profit organizations in the community such as the Multicultural Leadership Program, Western Avenue Community Center, the American Red Cross of the Heartland, Bloomington Public Library and the McLean County India Association.
