Biologist to speak on ecological communities

Photo of Tom MillerThe School of Biological Sciences will welcome Tom Miller from Florida State University for a seminar at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, in Felmley Hall of Science, room 105. Miller, a professor of biology, will give a talk titled Evolution in a Community Context: How Complicated Can It Be?

A biologist who conducts studies on St. George Island and in the Northern Gulf of Mexico, Miller explores the area’s ecology and monitors for the possible chronic effects of oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. His studies of ecological communities have appeared in scholarly journals such as Global Change Biology, the Journal of Global Ecology and Biogeography, American Naturalist and Ecology. His work has received funding from organizations such as the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He earned a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
