Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 1, all Illinois State students, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to participate in the second annual Redbird Recipe Contest for a chance to share a dish with the University community and have it added to the weekly menu rotations at the dining centers. Administrators of Campus Dining Services are not eligible to participate.
All Redbirds who wish to submit a recipe can pick up an entry form at any of the three dining centers or complete the entry form online (beginning Sept. 1). All entries must be received by Friday, Sept. 24 to be considered for the contest.
The submitted recipes will be reviewed by Campus Dining’s culinary team and placed in one of two categories: main/side dish or desserts/sweets. Finalists will be selected from each category based on the uniqueness of the dish, its perceived appeal to the campus community and its ability to be produced in large quantities. They will be featured on Oct. 12 during Homecoming week for dining center guests to taste. Guests can vote on their favorite dish, and the winner will be added to the dining centers’ menu rotation.
“Campus Dining Services values input from our students and the University community,” said Arlene Hosea, Director of Campus Dining Services. “The Redbird Recipe Contest is a great way to let Redbirds offer their suggestions, and share some of their favorite flavors with the University community.”
The 2009 winner was Phil Hizel’s Yummy Bars, which was added to the dessert rotations in the dining centers.
In addition to having their recipe added to the menus, the winner will receive a personalized token acknowledging them as the second Annual Redbird Recipe Contest Winner.
