Guest violist and pianist present free recital

Notable violist Hillary Herndon and freelance pianist Wei-Chun Bernadette Lo will present a free recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, in Kemp Recital Hall at Illinois State University. The program will include a sonata for viola and piano by Pamela Harrison, a sonata in c# by Fernande Decruck, and a sonata for viola and piano by Rebecca Clarke. image of Hillary Herndon

Herndon received her master's degree from the Juilliard School and has toured with orchestras throughout Europe and North America. She has served as principal violist of several orchestras and has been featured in live broadcasts on NPR. Passionate about teaching, Ms. Herndon has a thriving studio at the University of Tennessee, and holds summer positions at both the Sewannee Summer Music Festival and the International Festival Institute.  She is the director and founder of the Annual UT Viola Celebration, and is much in demand for master classes.

photo of Wei-Chun Bernadette LoTaiwanese-born Wei-Chun Bernadette Lo is a highly sought-after collaborative pianist.  She began piano lessons at the age of 6 and was trained under a national program for exceptionally gifted music students from the age of 9.  Dr. Lo received her bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. She continued her education at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and received her Doctor of Musical Arts in 2004.  Dr. Lo also guest teaches in her native country Taiwan regularly, and joined the faculty of Western Illinois University as staff pianist in 2008.
