Early-career faculty circles begin this week at CTLT

CTLT LogoAll faculty in their first three years of teaching at Illinois State University are invited to attend the Early-Career Faculty Circle meetings that begin this week at the Center for Teaching, Learning & Technology. The inaugural circle meetings for this semester will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 1 and 2, in the Instructional Technology and Development Center, 301 S. Main.  Thursday circles repeat Wednesday’s content, so interested participants are encouraged to attend the meeting that best fits their schedules. No pre-registration is required.

The theme of the circle meetings this semester is “Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education.”  No reading is required, but each meeting will explore one of the seven principles through a variety of activities and from a variety of perspectives.  Specific topics for the Fall 2010 semester include “Connecting with Students,” Sept. 1 and 2; “Active Learning,” Sept. 15 and 16; “Promoting Cooperation and Collaboration Among Students,” Sept. 29 and 30; “Providing Feedback Efficiently and Effectively,” Oct. 13 and 14; “Setting High Expectations—and Helping Students Meet Them,” Oct. 27 and 28; and “Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners,” Nov. 10 and 11.

More information is on the CTLT website.  Questions about the Early-Career Professional Development Circles should be directed to Claire Lamonica, CTLT associate director at 438-7695.
