The Creative Writing Program and the Department of English, in partnership with Gregor Studio, will host @Salon, an interdisciplinary artists’ salon, from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, at Gregor Studio in downtown Bloomington.
A theater of conversation and exchange, akin to the literary salons of the 17th and 18th centuries, this event will bring together artists from the university and the larger Bloomington-Normal community and beyond for an afternoon of literature, music, visual arts and more. Light refreshments will be served.
The salon program will include a welcome by Harold and Marlene Gregor, music by Eva Hunter and a reading by poet Adrian Matejka, professor at Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville and author of the 2008 National Poetry Series selection Mixology. Selected works by several other area artists, including pieces by Brian Collier, will also be showcased.
As a highlight of the salon, presentations of works-in-progress will be featured. The work will be discussed by salon attendees using Liz Lerman's Format for Critical Response, a format for feedback that affords the artist an active role in the dialogue.
