Sports dietician Leslie Bonci will present “The When, What and How of Fueling and Hydration to Optimize Sports Performance” as the Esther Larson McGinnis Scholar Lecture, sponsored by Illinois State University’s School of Kinesiology and Recreation.
Bonci will speak on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Old Main Room. The event is free and open to the public.
Bonci is director of sports medicine nutrition in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Center for Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She specializes in nutrition therapy for weight management, digestive disorders, cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and eating disorders. She serves as the sports dietitian for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, The University of Pittsburgh Athletic Department and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. She also serves as a consultant on eating disorders and sports nutrition for the NCAA.
Financial support for the lecture series is provided by the Esther Larson McGinnis Fund. The fund is named in honor of the late 1946 graduate who willed a portion of her estate to the University to support women’s physical education.
