Rogy’s Learning Place groundbreaking set

Rogy’s Learning Place will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. to mark the start of construction on the new child care center in Normal. The groundbreaking will take place at the corner of Main and Harris streets.

The new 13,000 square-foot center will replace the current Rogy’s site located at 900 Franklin Avenue in Normal. It will give priority to children of employees, faculty and staff from BroMenn Healthcare, Illinois Wesleyan University and Illinois State University, but will also be open to others as space is available. The new building will accommodate 180 children, ages six weeks to 12 years, and will have the latest innovations in security. It is expected that the center will employ 35 to 40 people when it opens late next summer.

Dawn Meyer, president of Rogy’s Learning Place, will host the groundbreaking, which will include comments from Roger Hunt, president and CEO of BroMenn Healthcare; Richard Wilson, president of Illinois Wesleyan University; and Al Bowman, president of Illinois State University. Several current Rogy’s pupils will also be on hand to help break ground. Refreshments will be served.

Parking for the groundbreaking will be available at University Cinemas, 1010 S. Main Street, Normal (Cullom Street side).
