Following the success of its Redbird Recipe contest, Campus Dining Services is calling on parents and family members of Illinois State students for their best recipes. The Tastes Like Home Recipe Contest kicked off earlier this month and will run through Family Weekend, with all entries due by Nov. 9. Any parent, guardian or family member of a current Illinois State student is welcome to submit a recipe for possible inclusion in the dining centers’ menu rotations. Three finalists will be selected and featured the first week of December in all three dining centers.
“The purpose of this contest is to bring our students’ favorite tastes from home to their college experience,” said Executive Chef Tim Gump. “We know there are those dishes that everyone misses and craves while they are away at school. So this is a way to bring those favorite comfort foods to our campus permanently.”
Parents and family members can submit a recipe via an electronic form on the Campus Dining Web site: www.Dining.ilstu.edu. Paper copies of the entry form are also available by contacting the department at campusdining@ilstu.edu or (309) 438-8351.
In addition to providing basic information about the recipe, parents and families are also asked what is unique about their dish, and why they believe the student population would enjoy it.
“We want to learn about the history of the dish that is being submitted,” said Tracy Widergren, marketing coordinator. “What makes this dish so special and enjoyable to them, and how do they believe that will translate to our students?”
Forms will also be made available in all three dining centers during Family Weekend, Nov. 6 to 9. For more information about the Tastes Like Home Recipe Contest or any other Campus Dining special event, contact Campus Dining at (309) 438-8351.
