Kevin Richmond, assistant professor at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis, will present a free piano recital at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in Kemp Recital Hall.
Richmond, who is coordinator of class piano and teaches class piano and class piano pedagogy, is a native of Wisconsin who completed his doctor of musical arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his master’s degree from Texas.
Richmond's teaching experience includes activities in Germany, France and the U.S. In addition to maintaining a private studio in Zierenberg, Germany, he was a member of the faculty at the Universität Kassel in Kassel, Germany, and at the Loire Valley Music Institute Summer Music Festival in Chinon, France. While completing his doctorate, he was on the University of Texas at San Antonio faculty as coordinator of group piano.
Richmond has performed numerous solo recitals in Europe, Japan and the U.S., including a performance of George Crumb's Makrokosmos I in Austria, a program of French and American piano music at "La Couture" in France and an evening of piano music by George Crumb at a prestigious concert series of New Music in Germany.
