The Department of Chemistry’s external seminar will feature Associate Professor Christopher Ziegler of the University of Akron. “The Metal Chemistry of Carbaporphyrins and Carbaphthalocyanines: Organometallics at the Equator” will take place Friday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m. in 225 Julian Hall.
Ziegler's research focuses on coordination chemistry and understanding the synergistic relationships between metals and ligands in biomolecules and materials, including coordination polymers. While the coordination of small molecules to metal centers is relatively well understood, the effect of complex ligand environments is still an area of intense investigation. His research examines metal ions in complex coordination environments, including tetrapyrrolic macrocycles and advanced materials.
