Walbert named chief technology officer/deputy CIO

Photo of Mark WalbertThe Illinois State University vice presidents have named Mark Walbert the University chief technology officer and deputy CIO.

Walbert will be focusing on four initiatives during the next 18 months.

  • Update the Information Technology Strategic Plan 2007-2010
  • Advance or complete an update to the Julian data center; consolidate server services across campus; update IT security policies, procedures and guidelines; develop disaster recovery/business continuity plans for non-central IT units; and learn and begin industry standard IT project management practices
  • Develop a plan for IT support for Internet instruction
  • Develop multi-medium communication plans

Walbert started at Illinois State in 1984 as a faculty member in the Department of Economics, where he served for 15½ years. He was previously director of Faculty Technology Support for three and a half years and most recently served as associate vice president of Academic Information Technology in the Provost’s Office for the past six years. Walbert received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of New Mexico.
