Student entrepreneurs will compete for more than $50,000 in cash and in-kind services during the Startup Showcase business competition held Friday, Nov. 15, at Illinois State University’s Alumni Center. The annual competition is organized by the George R. and Martha Means Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Illinois State.
Mike DeLazzer, founder and entrepreneur behind Redbox video rental kiosks, will present the Startup Showcase keynote address at 1 p.m. Redbox is the second largest video rental company in the world, with over 35,000 locations in the U.S. and revenues approaching $2 billion. The Startup Showcase competition challenges student entrepreneurs from Illinois State, Illinois Wesleyan University, Heartland Community College and Lincoln College to envision and develop business plans for startup companies. Finalists in the competition will present their plans to a panel of business professionals and entrepreneurs beginning at 9:30 a.m.
