Mary Leonard, chief performance officer for Coinstar, Inc., the parent company of Redbox, will be the featured speaker during Illinois State University’s Entrepreneurship Day Competition, also known as E-Day, on Friday, Nov. 11, from noon to 4:30 p.m. at the Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main in Normal.
E-Day events include a university-wide business plan competition and elevator pitch competition. Student teams will compete for an estimated $18,000.00 in funding and in-kind prizes to help kick start their ventures. Participants and attendees will have the opportunity to network and connect with venture capitalists, angel investors, incubator managers, practicing entrepreneurs and business professionals. E-Day events are hosted by the George R. and Martha Means Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, the Department of Management and Quantitative Methods, and the College of Business at Illinois State University.
Leonard is responsible for customer service, strategic internal communications, operational excellence, enterprise program management, deployment operations and facilities. She joined Redbox in 2006 as vice president of field operations and later assumed responsibility for deployment operations and machine support and customer service operations. During her tenure with Redbox, Leonard has been instrumental in helping the company grow from a base of 1,700 kiosks in 2006 to more than 28,000 kiosks in 2011.
Prior to Redbox, Leonard spent 25 years with FedEx Express. There she held a variety of positions including regional finance manager, station senior manager, and managing director in operations. She is a graduate of DePaul University, where she received a bachelor’s degree with a major in finance. She was recently elected to the board of directors for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.
