The Semper Fi Society registered student organization will hold a Marine Corps birthday celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Illinois State University Quad outside Schroeder Hall. The event is free and open to the public and will feature cake and information about the Semper Fi Society, one of the University's newest student organizations. Rain location for the event will be Milner Plaza.
The United States Marine Corps traces its history back to the American Revolution. On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress approved the formation of two battalions of Continental Marines as a naval infantry force.
The Semper Fi Society embraces the Marine Corps principles of honor, courage and commitment and is dedicated to building military and civilian leaders. Membership in the organization is open to current and former Marines, Marine officer candidates, and others interested in the ideals set forth by the United States Marine Corps.
