Preserving Your Cultural Heritage Presentation April 19

Date: 3/28/11

Contact: Kathy Beal

Make sure your treasures will last. Join Milner Library, Ames Library and the McLean County Museum of History for an evening of conversation and consultation. The Preserving Your Cultural Heritage presentation will be on Tuesday, April 19, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on the main floor of Milner Library.

Local experts who care for archives, library and museum collections will offer tips for storing and displaying your family's treasures. Practical information on preventing damage and salvaging materials when disaster strikes will also be shared. Attendees are invited to bring books, photographs, textiles or small objects for one-on-one consultations about potential preservation housings or treatments. Custom-made preservation boxes will be awarded as door prizes courtesy of Etherington Conservation Services, and each attendee will receive a resource list and local contacts for further information.

This event is part the American Library Association's 2011 Preservation Week, a ational effort to help communities understand the work of museums, libraries, archives and other organizations in preserving cultural heritage. Individuals, families and other groups create that history, and this program is designed to help them secure a future record of their actions. Find out more at http://www.atyourlibrary.org/passiton.

Speakers are Andrew Huot, Ross Griffiths, Meg Miner and Susan Hartzold. For additional information, e-mail Ross Griffiths at rmgriff@ilstu.edu or call him at (309) 438-7463.
