Mennonite College of Nursing Associate Professor Denise Wilson has been selected as a 2011 Illinois Board of Higher Education Nurse Educator Fellow. Wilson plans to use the $10,000 fellowship to conduct research in clinical decision-making in regard to use of evidence-based practice guidelines and the impact of these decisions on clinical outcomes.
The grant program is intended to help higher education institutions in Illinois retain well-qualified nurse educators, so that they can continue to train nurses and address the high demand for registered nurses in the workforce. To be considered for the fellowship, an individual must be nominated by the chief nursing administrator in an eligible institution; have made significant contributions to the nursing program; be an Illinois resident and have a minimum of a master's degree in nursing; be employed in a full-time nursing faculty position at an eligible institution; be employed by the nominating institution in a teaching position preparing registered nurses for a minimum of 12 months; and not received an award in the past four years.
