Two Illinois State University mock trial squads are advancing to the opening round of the national American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) tournament. The Illinois State squads were among 22 teams competing in a regional tournament in Joliet on Feb. 19 & 20. Both teams achieved a 6-2 win/loss record and will compete in an opening round championship tournament in Waukegan, March 11-13. Winners from that and other opening round tournaments across the nation will advance to the national championship tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, in April.
Two Illinois State students were recognized for their individual performances at the Joliet tournament. Sophomore Reagan Troutman was named outstanding witness and sophomore Anastasia Sotiropoulos was awarded outstanding attorney with a perfect score. This is the third consecutive year that Illinois State has advanced both of its mock trial squads to the national tournament; a record for the University.
