Contact: Kathy Beal

Illinois State University's Carlye Kalianov is the 2010-11 recipient of the Stan and Sandy Rives excellence in Undergraduate Education Award. The award, which will be presented at the Founders Day Convocation on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m., recognizes outstanding teaching or a significant contribution to the undergraduate experience, with special attention given to the first-year experience.

Kalianov, associate director of University College, joined the Illinois State staff in 1985 as an academic advisor.  During her time as director of the Academic Advisement Center, Kalianov was instrumental in creating University College, which embodies academic advisement, developmental math, First Year LinC, the Julia N. Visor Academic Center, Preview, Transfer Day, TRiO/Student Support Services and testing services.

Kalianov's efforts led to the reformulation of the First Year LinC Seminar (incorporating the American Democracy Project and Political Engagement), reformulated the delivery of Developmental Math courses, and coordinated the transition of the new University Studies major to University College.
