Illinois State University's Symphonic Winds will perform in concert on Thursday, April 14, at 8 p.m. On Sunday, April 17, the Wind Symphony will take the stage at 3 p.m. Both concerts will be held in the University's Center of the Performing Arts Concert Hall. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $7 for faculty and staff and $6 for students and seniors.
During the April 14 concert, the Symphonic Winds will perform Vanity Fair (A Comedy Overture) by Percy Fletcher;a regional premiere of Thaw by Illinois State alumnus Roy Magnuson; Hymn to a Blue Hour by John Mackey; and Symphony No. 8 by David Maslanka. Maslanka's epic symphony was premiered by Illinois State's Wind Symphony in 2008.
The Wind Symphony's April 17 concert will include Mozart's Gran Partita; Charles T. Griffes' Poem for Flute and Wind Ensemble, featuring flutist Stefanie Abderhalden; Downtown Diversions, Concerto for Trombone and Wind Band by Adam Gorb, featuring School of Music faculty member Mark Babbitt on trombone; and Give Us This Day, a short symphony by David Maslanka.
The Symphonic Winds and Wind Symphony are directed by Stephen Steele, director of bands in Illinois State's School of Music.
