Children at the UNITY Community Center will get a feel for what it is like to serve their country on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 5:45 p.m. at the UNITY Community Center in Normal.
Army National Guard Sergeant Chris Saldaris and Army National Guard Specialist Mike Chasteen, who both served in Afghanistan, will speak to approximately 25 children ages five to 16 about their experiences here and abroad.
The event is being put on by Illinois State University's Educational Administration and Foundations (EAF) Social Foundations of Education course of 50 students who tutor, mentor and teach civic engagement every Monday and Wednesday at the UNITY Community Center. Saldaris is enrolled in the class and is a health education major at Illinois State. Venus Evans-Winters, assistant professor in the EAF department, teaches the course.
