Illinois State University Orchestra to Tour Central Illinois and Chicago High Schools

Date: 9/30/09

Contact: Marc Lebovitz

This year, the Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra's annual high school concert tour, Oct. 6 to 8, will be an ambitious venture covering eight high schools in three days.  Audiences in Urbana, Peoria, Naperville, Wheaton, New Lenox, Lincolnshire, Hoffman Estates and Elmhurst will attend concerts by the ISU orchestra.

ISU Director of Orchestras Glenn Block schedules the tour each fall to give his performers experience and to help introduce Illinois high school students to the sound and talent of a university symphony orchestra.

The tour will begin early Tuesday, Oct. 6, with an 8:35 a.m. concert at Urbana High School.  Then they will travel west on Interstate 74 to present a 12:55 p.m. concert at Woodruff High School.  The orchestra will return to ISU that evening to rehearse for two side-by-side concerts with high school orchestras the next two days.

On Wednesday, the orchestra will leave early for a 10 a.m. concert at Naperville North High School, then travel to Wheaton for a 1:15 p.m. concert at Wheaton North.  The orchestra then will travel to New Lenox and will perform a side-by-side concert with Lincoln-Way Combined Orchestras.

Thursday will begin with an 8 a.m. concert at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, an 11 a.m. concert at Hoffman Estates High School and conclude with a side-by-side concert with the York Community High School Orchestra.
