Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University will celebrate 90 years as a nursing education institution and 10 years at Illinois State with a reception on Sept. 10 from 4-6 p.m. at the Alumni Center. The reception also celebrates the appointment of the college's new dean, Janet Wessel Krejci.
Mennonite College of nursing was a former private college established in 1919. On July 1, 1999, it became the sixth academic college at Illinois State. For more than 90 years the primary mission has been to prepare professional nurses by providing a quality education. Mennonite College of Nursing has maintained important traditions at Illinois State while transforming into an innovative, future-oriented program.
Mennonite College of Nursing ranks above the state and nationwide averages for the number of graduates who passed the national nursing licensure examination on the first try in 2008. Ninety-seven percent of Mennonite graduates passed the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN) on the first try last year. The nationwide NCLEX-RN pass rate for nursing program graduates was 87 percent, while the State of Illinois pass rate was 90 percent.
