Illinois State University will host its Livestock Manure Management Field Day on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the University Farm near Lexington. The event will feature seminars on and demonstrations of manure management techniques and technology. The event is free and open to the public and will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Morning seminars will cover topics including optimizing the fertilizer value of manure, manure management regulations and innovative and economical technologies for processing manure, controlling liquid manure odor and applying processed liquid manure to fields. Attendees will also have an opportunity to view commercially available manure solid-liquid separation systems, tour Illinois State's composting facility and inspect corn and soybean plots fertilized with separated effluent, composted biosolids, unprocessed swine slurry and inorganic fertilizer.
Funding for the event is provided by Illinois State University's Department of Agriculture, the Illinois Council on Food and Agricultural Research (C-FAR), the University of Illinois Extension and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
