Illinois State University School of Communication announces its Fell Hall Call to Action, which provides a collection drive to aid the Navarro family of Normal and highlights the importance of renters insurance.
The School of Communication is arranging a collection drive in order to supply the Navarro family with necessities to rebuild their lives after losing their home in a fire. Students from one section of Communication as Critical Inquiry (COM 110) - a course required for graduation from the university-are holding a bake sale Monday, September 14 through Friday, September 18 from 10AM until 2PM in order to garner donations that will go directly to the Navarro family. That same week, donations will be accepted in Fell Hall to help the family. In addition, the School of Communication is hosting the Social Issues Fair, Wednesday, September 16 from 10AM until 2PM. The fair will include informational materials collected by and presented by students enrolled in several sections of COM 110.
The Fell Hall Call to Action campaign will provide support for the family and also spread awareness about renters insurance. After hearing about the Navarros, students began wondering whether their peers were aware of renters insurance. Frankly, not many students are aware. Illinois State students living in apartments are frequently unaware of the damages and dangers that may be in their midst. Theft, fire, and flood are the major concerns which renters insurance helps to protect residents against by offering insured residents replacement value reimbursement for their lost belongings.
Additional donated materials will be sent to a local charity. All proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to the Navarro family.
