World Premiere Arrangement and Film Scores on "Evening of Brass" Program

Date: 9/29/09

Contact: Marc Lebovitz

Every brass student in Illinois State University's School of Music will be on the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall stage at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, for an "Evening of Brass."

Admission is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.  Tickets are available at the CPA box office from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays or by calling (309) 438-2535.

Ensembles to perform Sunday include the Trumpet Ensemble conducted by Amy Gilreath, the Horn Choir conducted by Joe Neisler, the Trumbone Choir conducted by Steve Parsons and the Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble conducted by Andy Rummel.

Among the Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble's selections will be the world premiere of an arrangement done by music undergraduate Katie Zdanowski of Peoria.  The piece, "Nïne silï nebesnïya" (Rejoice Now Heavenly Powers) by Alexander Sheremetiev, is an example of Russian Orthodox liturgical music originally written for mail chorus.  The ensemble also will perform "Russian Sailor's Dance" by Rheinhold Gliere, from his opera,"The Red Poppy."

The Trumpet Ensemble's program will include "Siyahamba," a traditional South African folk song that will feature six members of the percussion studio on traditional African Instruments.   They will also perform a "Star Wars" medley, selections from the John Williams score.

The overture to Rossini's "Barber of Seville," arranged for horn choir, will be performed by the ISU Horn Choir, which also will play selections from another film score, "Titanic."
