Anecdotes and Stories About John Adams Presented Oct. 6

Date: 10/5/09

Contact: Marc Lebovitz

Members of the Twin City Tale Spinners will present "John Adams: Brilliant Bibliophile" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, on the main floor of Milner Library at Illinois State University.  Admission is free and open to the public.

The event is held in conjunction with the Milner Library panel exhibition, "John Adams Unbound," which continues through Oct. 16.

Presenters will share well-researched anecdotes and stories about how books and writing influenced John Adams into becoming a high-spirited boy who played hooky from school, a serious Harvard graduate, and a popular lawyer and diplomat.  He was the first Vice-President and second President of the United States.

"John Adams Unbound" explores Adams's personal library, a collection of 3,500 books willed by Adams to the people of Massachusetts and deposited in the Boston Public Library in 1894.  The remarkable collection of books provides first-hand insight into how Adams shaped American history and how he was shaped through his lifelong dedication to reading and books.
