Collins to Deliver Sociology/Anthropology Bone Lecture Oct. 22

"Violence as it Actually Happens: Myths and Realities of Violence in a Micro-Sociological Perspective" will be the subject of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology Bone Lecture by sociologist Randall Collins on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in Room 116 of Illinois State University's Alumni Center.  The event is free and open to the public.

Collins is the Dorothy Swaine Thomas Professor of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania and a leading American expert on the sociology of violence and terrorism. As a professor and researcher, he has delved into many of the societal issues that underlie violence, as well as those that emerge from it.  He is the author of 15 books, including Violence: A Micro-Sociological Theory, as well as some 150 scholarly articles examining aspects of violence within society.
