Date: 10/20/09

Contact: Jay Groves

Vice President for University Advancement Dianne Ashby will retire May 1, 2010, after leading the division for almost five years and serving Illinois State for 18 years. A national search to fill the position will begin immediately.

"Dr. Ashby took over the leadership of University Advancement following a very successful fundraising campaign and has continued the momentum to this day," said President Al Bowman.  "She has solidified a culture of philanthropy among alumni, corporate stakeholders and the University community and has greatly improved every unit in the Advancement Division."

During her tenure, Ashby oversaw the acquisition of the new Alumni Center, located at 1101 N. Main St., Normal.  She also led implementation of the University's new marketing plan and spearheaded online marketing, new communication strategies for alumni and outreach activities for alumni groups throughout the world. Ashby also added 70 new endowments to the Illinois State University Foundation, which now provides funding for more than 600 scholarships to Illinois State students.

"I know I speak for the entire Foundation Board when I say that Dr. Ashby will be missed," said Foundation Chair Ann Baughan. "Her leadership and commitment to an outstanding fundraising program has accrued success that will benefit Illinois State for years to come."

Ashby began her Illinois State career in 1991 as the Illinois Postsecondary HIV Prevention Education Project coordinator. She then was named to the faculty and served as principal of University High School. Ashby went on to serve as chair the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations and dean of the College of Education.

Prior to coming to Illinois State, Ashby held administrative and teaching positions in PK-12 schools and with the Department of Corrections and Illinois State Board of Education.
