Tyler Wiggs, Bloomington, is the 2010 recipient of the Peter V. Vitucci Memorial Scholarship at Illinois State University. The Vitucci Scholarship was created by family and friends of Peter V. Vitucci, a 1991 criminal justice sciences alumnus, who worked as a police officer with the Wood Dale Police Department. Vitucci died in an automobile accident in the fall of 1992.
Wiggs, the 18th student to receive the Vitucci Memorial Scholarship, is a criminal justice sciences major. In addition to being a strong student with a 4.0 GPA, Wiggs is an active volunteer on campus and in the community. He has volunteered for numerous agencies, including Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society of Central Illinois and the Salvation Army. On campus, he is on the Alpha Phi Sigma (National Criminal Justice Honor Society) Executive Board, has served on the Honors Student Organization Executive Board, and is involved in other organizations and activities.
The $1,000 Vitucci Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a criminal justice sciences major who has completed his or her junior year with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipient must have the intent to work in the criminal justice field as well as possess high moral values and integrity, demonstrate leadership qualities, and be involved in activities of the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences and/or the University.
