Illinois State University Police Lieutenant Aaron Woodruff has been promoted to the position of deputy chief of police with the rank of major. In his new position Woodruff will command the patrol and criminal investigation divisions and support services units of the Illinois State University Police Department. Woodruff's former position was that of patrol division commander.
Woodruff is an honor graduate from Western Illinois University, completing his Bachelor of Science degree in law enforcement and justice administration in 1997. He graduated from the University of Illinois Police Training Institute in 1998 and he recently completed the Illinois Law Enforcement Executive Institute PER21C Program on Police Executive Leadership. Woodruff was recently decorated with the Chiefs Award of Merit - Meritorious Service Medal for distinguished police service.
Woodruff is currently in his second year of service as co-chair of the Minority and Police Partnership (MAPP), the nation's first formal organization between minority communities and police. He has also worked closely with a number of other community outreach programs including the Children's Hospital of Illinois, Safe Kids of McLean County, McLean County Crime Stoppers, and the recent revival of the Illinois State Students on Patrol (STOP) Program.
