Lecture on Stephen Sondheim March 21

Illinois State University English Professor Robert McLaughlin will present "Stephen Sondheim at 80: An Appreciation of Broadway's Greatest Composer" at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 21 at the Community Players Theatre, 201 Robinhood Lane, Bloomington. The event is free and open to the public.

Drawing from his book in progress (working title Stephen Sondheim and the Postmodern American Musical Theater), McLaughlin will explore the ways Stephen Sondheim has made use of the musical-theatre tradition he inherited and how he has revolutionized it. This lecture is offered in conjunction with the Community Players' production of Side by Side by Sondheim which runs from March 25-27.
