Aasif Mandvi, actor, comedian and correspondent for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, will be the featured speaker at Illinois State University's Indian Cultural Dinner on Monday, April 12, at 5 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Brown Ballroom.
Tickets for the dinner and program are $15.25 for the general public and $12 for Illinois State students, faculty and staff. Campus Dining meal plan participants can purchase a ticket with one meal swipe. Tickets can be purchased at the Watterson Commons, Marketplace at Linkins and Southside in Feeney dining centers from Monday, March 22 through Sunday, April 4.
Well known for his role as a correspondent on the satirical news program The Daily Show, Mandvi is also the recipient of the OBIE award for his critically acclaimed one-man show Sakina's Restaurant. His other New York stage credits include the 2002 Broadway revival of OKLAHOMA!, Guantanamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom, Homebody/Kabul, Suburbia, Trudy Blue, and Speak Truth to Power. Film and television credits include the title role in Merchant/Ivory's The Mystic Masseur, Music and Lyrics, Spider-Man 2, Freedomland, The Siege, Analyze This, Sex and the City, The Sopranos, CSI, Law and Order, Jericho, ER, and Tanner on "Tanner," directed by Robert Altman.
The evening will include dinner and Indian music performed by Shunya. Mandvi will also hold an informal autograph session following his presentation.
