If the Chicago Cubs music scouts are in Central Illinois, they might want to attend the Tuesday, March 30, 8 p.m. recital by the Illinois State University Faculty Brass Quintet, whose program will include "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."
The popular Wrigley Field seventh-inning-stretch tune is one of several favorites of trombonist Steve Parsons that will be on the program. It will be Parsons' final performance as a member of the quintet as a result of his duties as director of the School of Music.
The recital will be in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall and is part of the Charles W. Bolen Faculty Recital Series. Admission is $6 for the general public, $5 or faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens, and tickets are available at the Center for the Performing Arts box office from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
The other members of the quintet are trumpeters Amy Gilreath and Andrew Gerbitz, horn player Libby Jones and tuba player Andy Rummel. Gerbitz and Jones are graduate students in the School of Music.
The musical program also will include "My Spirit Be Joyful" from Easter Cantata No. 146 byJohann Sebastian Bach, Quintet No. 2 by Victor Ewald, "Three Salutations" by Jack End, and the 1918 melody "After You've Gone" byHenry Creamer and Turner Layton, arranged by Jack Gale.
