Civic Chorale, Belle Voix to Present Concert March 21

Three Illinois State University singing groups - Madrigal Singers, the Civic Chorale and Belle Voix - will perform in a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 21, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall.  Admission is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty and staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.

Civic Chorale will be performing David Dickau's "If Music Be the Food of Love," accompanied by pianist Patty Foltz.  Belle Voix will perform several compositions, titled "Affairs of the Heart," by Sarah Graham, who is director of the group.  Other pieces by Belle Viox will include dancer, a student conductor, and Karyl Carlson, director of choral activities at ISU, as a guest conductor.

The Madrigal group will present an innovative program include the world premiere of "Take All My Loves," with text by Shakespeare and music by 2004 ISU alumnus Dennis Tobenski.  He is currently a singer and composer in New York City.

Madrigals also will sing a piece by Dominick Argento called "I Hate and I Love," to poetry by Catullus in 50 BC.  The piece includes percussion and will be performed in tandum with a video component designed by Rose Marshack.  Prior to the performance of the Argento, senior honors student Amanda Walsh will present some historical background on the poet Catullus.
