Students Urged to Complete Census

Date: 3/18/10

Contact: Bree Davis

Illinois State University students are being encouraged to fill out census questionnaires that are arriving in the mail this week. The 2010 census aims to count people where they live most of the time, which means students living on and off campus should be counted at Illinois State.

Students living in residence halls will receive census forms from their RAs and should return completed forms to their RAs. Students living off campus will receive the form in the mail. All students living at the address are considered one household, so only one form should be completed with information about all the people living at that address and returned in the U.S. mail in the envelope provided.

Students who commute and reside full-time at their parents' or guardians' household should be accounted for on their parents' or guardians' census forms.

One of the shortest in history, the 2010 Census form takes about 10 minutes to complete. Counting students as part of the local community is important because information gathered is used at the national and local level and could result in increased government funds for the University, as well as tuition grants and loan programs.
