ISU Adult Enrichment Spring/Summer Programs Scheduled

Illinois State University's Adult Enrichment Programs, which include Academy of Seniors and Mornings with the Professors, will start in March and continue through June.  Sponsored by the Senior Professionals of Illinois State University and affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute Network, most classes will be held in the Illinois State University Alumni Center at 1101 N. Main St. in Normal.

Academy of Seniors offers four classes, and the speakers and their topics include:

  • Alfred Kinsey and the History of American Sexuality - Illinois State History Associate Professor Richard Hughes - March 23, 25, 30 & April 1 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Living Longer/Staying Younger: What's the Future Hold for Us? - Illinois State Biological Sciences Professor H. Tak Cheung - April 5, 7, 12 & 14 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
  • Understanding Islam and Contemporary Muslims - Ali Riaz, professor and chair, Illinois State Politics and Government - May 25, 27, June 1 & 3 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

The Mornings with the Professors are scheduled for five Fridays from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and speakers and their topics include:

  • Dissent in American Culture: Noble and Not So Noble - James Bortell, retired minister and John Freese, retired judge - April 2
  • Hazle Buck Ewing: To the Manor Born - Jo Rayfield, retired Illinois State archivist - April 9
  • Spinach is Spinach, You Say? - Agriculture Assistant Professor David Kopsell, Illinois State - April 16
  • From Rags to Riches: The Story of Ragtime? - Illinois Wesleyan Professor Emeritus Todd Tucker - April 23
  • Aging Successfully: What Science Has To Say - Illinois Wesleyan Assistant Professor Mignon Montpetit - April 30

The summer Academy of Seniors will offer one course:

  • Social Networking on the Web: What For, How To, and Why Not? - Elaine Cousins, retired professor, University of Michigan -June 22, 24, 29 & July 1     

The cost for Mornings with the Professors is $45 for all five sessions or $15 for individual sessions and may be paid at the door.
