This summer's Concerts on the Quad at Illinois State University, sponsored by the School of Music in conjunction with the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, will open July 5 with the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band. The band will reenact the actual Civil War-era band that was mustered at Illinois State Normal University in 1861.
The concerts, which are free and open to the public, begin at 7 p.m. on four consecutive Mondays on the northwest corner of the quad next to Cook Hall. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.
On July 12, enjoy the sounds of strings and an evening of chamber music. The July 19 concert will feature Illinois State faculty members Kevin Hart and Tom Marko in Kevin Hart and the Vine Tribe, and Illinois State vocal faculty and guests will close the concert series on July 26 with favorites from the operatic and Broadway stages in Singing Under the Stars.
In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be presented in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. If that change of locations is necessary, it will be announced after 5 p.m. on radio stations WGLT, WJBC and WBNQ.
