Illinois State University alumna and local painter Angel Ambrose will have a wood sculpture installed at Ewing Manor on June 18 at 1:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Her sculpture, "The Hengewood Project," was born out of the idea to create seating and an artsy environment around her fire pit. When she came across pieces of wood from a downed tree and was allowed to take as much as she wanted, the project began. The result is a functional and beautiful six pieces of painted wood which will be installed at Ewing Manor on the east side of the property, just south of the theatre and near the woods.
Visitors are free to view the sculpture and the gardens at any time. Ewing Manor is open every day from 8 a.m. until dark. Visitors are asked to park at St. John's Lutheran Church and enter the property at the corner of Towanda and Emerson.
Ambrose graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. She also received Illinois State's "Best Undergraduate Painter" award that year. Ambrose has had many exhibitions of her work, including numerous shows in the Bloomington-Normal area. A few of the shows here have been at McLean County Art Center, a retrospective show of 36 paintings spanning 20 years at Bromenn Hospital; Illinois State University Galleries and the Phoenix Gallery.
