Illinois State University Honors Program has awarded 39 incoming Honors students a highly competitive $2,000 Honors First-Year Scholarship for 2009-10.
Those receiving the scholarship include:
- Ashley Barnes, a graduate of Lake Park High School in Roselle and daughter of Lynn and Jim Barnes
- Maryssa Beckman of Highland High School in Highland and daughter of Patty and Tom Beckman
- Joseph Blunk, a graduate of Lisle Senior High School in Lisle and son of Joe and Kate Blunk
- Gillian Borth, a graduate of Highpoint Academy in Normal and son of Mark and Candace Borth
- August Cassens, a graduate of Eastland High School in Lanark and son of Jerry and Diann Cassens
- Anna Christianson, a graduate of Tri-Valley High School in Bloomington and daughter of Kevin and Julie Christianson
- Andrew Goveia, a graduate of Normal Community West High School and son of William and Marlene Goveia

The Honors Program supports academically talented students by offering individualized attention, opportunities to work one-on-one with professors and a stimulating academic and social atmosphere often found only at elite liberal arts colleges.
