The effects of climate change on Lake Tanganyika in East Africa will be the topic of a presentation by Catherine O'Reilly, Bard College assistant professor of biology and International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) scientist, on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 4 p.m. in Moulton Hall Room 214. Her presentation is part of the Biological Sciences Seminar Series in Illinois State University's School of Biological Sciences and is free and open to the public.
O'Reilly's presentation will examine how climate change is decreasing the aquatic ecosystem productivity of Lake Tanganyika, a biologically diverse and important natural resource in East Africa. She has conducted extensive research on how climate change factors have impacted the lake's nutrient cycle, thus reducing overall fish yields.
