Musical Training for Community Available Beginning Jan. 19

Enrollment for the Illinois State University Community School for the Arts and Singing Redbirds Children's Chorus is under way.

Private classical music lessons on all traditional band and orchestra instruments are offered on a weekly basis beginning the week of Jan. 19 and continuing through April 30. Lessons taught by current Illinois State University music majors and community members are available for beginners through advanced students. Children must be currently enrolled in kindergarten to take lessons. Private voice lessons are available to people 12 and older.

All lessons are held on campus and are scheduled at a mutually agreeable time between the student and the instructor. Tuition for 15 weeks of half-hour lessons is $225 and for one-hour lessons $330.

The Singing Redbirds is a children's chorus for girls and boys in grades three through six under the direction of Melissa Miller. This chorus meets every Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. beginning Jan. 14 inCook Hall room 308. Children perform at a variety of community activities and venues such as Illinois State University athletic events, retirement homes, Children's Discovery Museum, etc. Tuition is $125 per semester. Parents are welcome to attend the first rehearsal to check out the chorus!
