The widely used textbook, Literature and the Writing Process, co-authored and edited by Elizabeth McMahan, a professor emerita of English at Illinois State University, has sold 390,000 copies and is now in its ninth edition.
First published in 1986 by Macmillan, the book combines thorough instruction in the writing process with a literary anthology of short stories, poems, and plays, allowing instructors to integrate the teaching of writing and literature in an introductory course.
The ninth edition of Literature and the Writing Process, published by Pearson/Longman, is co-authored and edited by Robert Funk, a professor emeritus at Eastern Illinois University; Susan Day, a professor of psychology at The University of Houston; and Linda Coleman, a professor of English and director of writing programs at Eastern Illinois University.
