Schubert's Mass in G to be Performed Feb. 18

Date: 2/16/10

Contact: Marc Lebovitz

The Civic Chorale, Madrigal Singers and Chamber Orchestra at Illinois State University will join forces for a concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. Admission is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for student and senior citizens.

Conducted by Karyl Carlson, director of Choral Activities in the School of Music, the three performing groups will perform Schubert's Mass in G.  Schubert's Mass No. 2 in G major was composed in 1815.  It is the best known of the three "shorter" mass compositions that Schubert composed between the more elaborate first and fifth masses.

The Chamber Orchestra will then perform the Pulcinella Suite from the Stravinsky ballet, "Pulcinella."  Graduate student in conducting Carlos Avila, who is from San Juan, Puerto Rico, will conduct.
