The Center for Conservation and Preservation at the Milner Library is offering six book arts workshops for members of the community. All are in the evening except for one Saturday workshop. All levels are welcome and all tools and materials are included in the fee.
All classes limited to 12 participants each. Registration is available by contacting Andrew Huot at the Center for Conservation and Preservation at ahuot@ilstu.edu or by calling (309) 438-3450. Checks should be made payable to Illinois State University.
Introduction to Bookbinding will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. on either Feb. 17, Feb. 23 or March 18. The cost is $40 per person, or $25 to students and Friends of Milner Library.
Long Stitch Book, common structure for accountants in 16th-century Italy, will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 24. The cost is $40 per person, or $25 to students and Friends of Milner Library.
Sewn Board Binding, a modern variation of a historical book structure, will be offered on either March 24 or March 31 from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $60 or $45 for students and Friends of Milner Library.
Paste Paper, a paper decorating technique that has been used for book covers and endsheets since the 16th century will be taught from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27. The cost is $60 or $45 for students and Friends of Milner Library.
Beginning Book Repair will be offered on April 20, April 27 or May 4. The cost is $80 or $60 for students and Friends of Milner Library.
Drop Spine Presentation Box will be offered twice, from 6 to 9 p.m. on May 26 or June 2. The cost is $60 or $45 for students and Friends of Milner Library.
