Date: 8/24/09

Contact: Eric Jome

William Hunter, an associate professor of chemistry, has assumed the role of director of Illinois State University's Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology (CeMaST).  As director, Hunter will lead CeMaST's efforts to promote excellence in science, technology, and mathematics education at Illinois State.

CeMaST stimulates and supports activities and research on teaching and learning that align with campus, state, and national science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) priorities; provides leadership for cross-disciplinary collaborative STEM activities and research on teaching and learning; and directs efforts to increase diversity within the STEM disciplines.

Over the next few years, CeMaST will continue its university, statewide and national leadership.  In particular, Hunter has set goals of providing leadership in urban STEM education, in outreach to underserved populations, and in stimulating cross-disciplinary research and programs.

"I look forward to working with the leadership team at CeMaST and with my colleagues across campus and the country as we highlight contributions that Illinois State can make to the national STEM agenda," said Hunter.
