Undergraduate Research Symposium Celebrates 20th Year

Illinois State University will celebrate the 20th Undergraduate Research Symposium at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 16, with a poster session in the Bone Student Center Brown Ballroom. The Department of Physics is holding oral presentations from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in 309 Moulton Hall in conjunction with the Symposium. Both are free and open to the public.

More than 200 undergraduate students representing 22 departments/schools at Illinois State will show their research, scholarship and creative endeavors. The Symposium's goals are to encourage cross-disciplinary associations and focus on communicating research to the general public. Faculty members, visitors and peers will provide oral and written feedback to student participants.

Some of the research topics include

  • The effect of energy drink consumption
  • The baseball stadium dilemma
  • Cancer incidence in Illinois in relation to pesticide use
  • Poverty Chic: A rhetorical analysis of the homeless American Girl doll
  • Technology: Old age versus new wave
  • With liberty and Starbucks for all?
  • Do seatbelts save lives?
  • Pedestrian behavior when using crosswalks: Obeying traffic signals

The Illinois State Undergraduate Research Symposium is sponsored by the Graduate School, Research and Sponsored Programs, and the Honors Program.
